It’s time to wave goodbye to a season of sequins & shoulder pads as spring at A|wear returns with a nostalgic retro Americana vibe titled ‘Dakota Blue’. Denim rules the roost for spring but it’s denim with an A|wear twist…relaxed separates from waistcoats to oversized shirts and the trusty faded blue jean. Choose from easy to wear snap-front ditsy floral shirts, cut off waistcoats and relaxed jackets in rugged or faded denim. Borrowed from the boys, waistcoats and logo tees are customised & feminised creating a look with lots of tomboyish and girly charm.
Speaking on the launch of the new season, CEO A|wear Annmarie Flood said, “It’s time to lift the mood on the high street, spring has officially arrived & holidays are on the way. Dakota Blue is inspired by the everyday girl…..fun, easy to wear, relaxed pieces, reigniting our passion for all things with a feminine touch. Simple striped dresses, delicate floral tee’s & reinvented denim are all key to this look. A prevailing new gentle on the eye colour palette also makes a comeback…..pastels, honey, khakis & jersey grey are all essentials. As with every A|wear collection, each piece is designed with the price conscious customer in mind, with dresses starting from €30, tee’s from €8 and blouses from €25.”
Jackets & Knitwear
Spring 2010 is all about lightweight fabric for jackets think embellished boleros in suedette and light quilted fabrics teamed with matching bandeau style mini dresses. Western influences also make an appearance with distressed style denim jackets showing subtle hints of rivets and studs. The mac stays put for spring but takes on a softer feel in pretty mink, taupe & navy tones. For a bolder look, the all over leopard print mac also makes a welcome addition to this season’s collection. Knitwear for spring is long line and open knit, think oversized slouchy cardis layered over tank tops & cotton shirts. The short cropped jumper is also a must have in biscuit and oatmeal shades.
Dresses & Skirts
With the arrival of spring and sunshine, dresses are floaty and feminine; think light chiffon in pale pinks & ditsy floral print sundresses with cute matching belts. Western influence is seen in the suedette ruffle bandeau dress while oversized long checked tunics make the perfect dress teamed with a low slung leather belt. In skirts the ruffle tulle is carried over from late winter in shades of dusky pink and charcoal grey; be daring & rough it up by wearing with a floral print vest, indigo waistcoat and flat biker boots. The mini is an absolute must…from spots to florals to ruffles & tiers, no wardrobe should be without at least one this season. Watch out also for early hints of vintage lace. Set to be a big trend for high summer, tea stained tunics & accents of lace across cami’s and cardi’s will arrive in late spring & are destined to carry you through to winter.
Tee’s & Accessories
Hot off the catwalks, fringing is set to be a big trend for spring. Seen across logo tee’s & basic vests, tuck into ditsy floral minis or team with skinny jeans and slouchy boots. The new season is all about dressing up your basic tees; watch out for a bouquet of summer florals and cutesy kitsch motifs, or the opposing look of simple spots and stripes. Floral print vests are paired with tulle frill skirts & basic tees are added under oversized denim and check shirts. Ensure to use accessories to add the finishing touches. The absolute must have this season is the scarf, fringed, studded or bright prints, wear over pretty dresses or mix it up by tying it to your wrist or around an old leather bag. The trend for big sticks around in bags, oversized tan shoppers are essential or a low slung fringed crossover bag makes the perfect wardrobe update.
