SPRING FEVER AT LIFFEY VALLEY FASHION SHOW IN AID OF
THE MARIE KEATING FOUNDATION
Bright colours, sunny smiles and glamorous girls were in abundance at the Liffey Valley Spring/Summer Fashion Show in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation. MC for the event was Sheana Keane from RTE’s Afternoon Show and Jennifer Stevens, Editor of U Magazine gave the ladies in attendance some top fashion tips for summer 2008.
The best of Spring/Summer fashion from Liffey Valley retailers was showcased at an exclusive VIP fashion evening. Trends for Spring Summer included floral, safari, nautical and stars & stripes. “The key is to take inspiration from these trends but not to overdo it. Pick items from each look and mix them with your existing Spring/Summer wardrobe” advised Ms. Stevens.
Clothing from top fashion retailers including H&M, Coast, Top Shop, Oasis, Monsoon, Next, A-Wear, Jane Norman, Sasha, Warehouse and Tommy Hilfiger were worn by Assets models Baibe, Sarah Morrissey, Karen Fitzpatrick, Sarah McGovern and others. Handsome male models Kumar and Siva proved very popular with the ladies.
Key items from each trend were shown including floral tea dresses, belted safari jackets in muted colours with three quarter length sleeves, wide leg nautical pants and accessories with stars & stripes. Colours were vivid with bright blue and coral appearing regularly. Navy was also present as ‘it is kinder to pale Irish skin than black is” according to Ms. Stevens.
Silhouettes for Spring/Summer were balanced. “It’s important if wearing the new full circle, 1950s style skirt, that you team it with a fitted top. Similarly, with wide leg trousers a fitted top is essential. And in reverse, a voluminous top is required when wearing skinny trousers” Stevens added.
Accessories are oversized but Ms. Stevens said we don’t have to pay big pirces to be stylish this Summer. “All of the high street shops are offering great bags – in particular over-sized clutches which are the bag of the season. They are also selling great wedges which give height without sacrificing on comfort” she said.
The event kicked off a series of four days of highly choreographed and entertaining fashon shows at Liffey Valley. A specially designed pamper lounge has been installed where shoppers can avail of a range of makeovers, treatments, hair and beauty consultations and lots more.
The four day event was held in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. “We are delighted that Liffey Valley has chosen the Marie Keating Foundation as the charity for this four day fashion event. Our team look forward to meeting the women over the four days and informing them about our work and how they can contribute to our Foundation. It’s great to be able to combine a fun event with a good cause” says Linda Keating of the Marie Keating Foundation.
