10 Questions with: The Mammy Blogger

10 Questions with: The Mammy Blogger

10 questions with: The Mammy Blogger

Hi Niamh, welcome to Liffey Valley Style HQ! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
Let’s begin…

1. What is your best childhood memory?
Wow, that’s a really tough one. I had a very happy childhood so it’s hard to single out one memory. We had a holiday home in Brittas Bay when I was very small and we’d go there with our cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and have the most amazing time. BBQs out on the grass, bunk beds, bike rides, dusk walks on the beach and coming home to hot chocolate afterwards-Bliss!

2. What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
Becoming a mum has completely changed my life. Up until my son arrived in December 2016, I’d never changed a nappy, made a bottle, put on a onesie or even held a baby for more than 5 minutes without it unleashing what I like to call ‘the death roar.’ It’s transformed me as a person and given me a whole new set of priorities. 11 months in, and I’m starting to like the new person I’m becoming and that’s all down to my son.

He’s just such a happy little dude. I adore spending time with him, listening to his laugh, holding him in my arms, playing with him, watching him explore the world and soothing him when he needs it. I love everything about him. I literally want to eat his chubby cheeks and when he snuggles into me for a hug, I am complete putty in his hands!

3. What advice would you give to our Mummy followers?
I started to help other first time mums, to let them know they aren’t alone in sometimes feeling overwhelmed and that it’s okay to pine for your old life too. You shouldn’t be expected to become an amazing mum overnight- It takes time. Sometimes you won’t bond with your baby the instant he or she is thrust onto your chest after labour, and that is totally normal too. It does not mean you are a bad mum. Be kind to yourself and know you are doing your best… the first three months can be particularly tough so don’t be afraid to reach out for help, but know that it does get better… And if I can do it, you definitely can.

4. What achievement are you most proud of?
Erm… the soppy part of me wants to say giving birth to my son! And that’s partly true, but I think being shortlisted for an Eircom Golden Spider for Best Digital Editor in 2010 was a great achievement. The media landscape was completely different back then and I had just launched in late 2009 and got shortlisted in my first year. It was before the online world really exploded and I was up against the likes of heavy hitters such as! I was a one-woman show, so it was both a huge complement and a massive mismatch – sort of David and Goliath situation. I didn’t take the gong but it was a nice string to add to my bow. Also as nerdy as it sounds getting a first class honours in both my BA and MA is something I’m personally very proud of.

5. What was the last picture you took on your phone? Can you show us?
These days my phone is full of pictures of my son and or dog! And the last pic I took on my phone was of course of them both checking out the pumpkin before I carved it.

6. You blog about your life and style, do you like shopping and where is your favourite place to shop?
I adore shopping, but it has certainly changed for me since becoming a mum. Now I’ve got to take the pram into consideration and it’s amazing how many stores just don’t cater for them. I find shopping centres like Liffey Valley really good for this though; I can easily stroll in and out of the stores without the stress and bustle of town.

I adore New Look and H&M, I think in terms of high street shops they are right up there for both quality and style. I’ve pieces from both stores that have stood the test of time and both excel across fashion, shoes and accessories. Of course, I have to always say Penney’s… that place is heavenly! What can’t you buy in there?

7. What is your guilty pleasure?
Wine! After a long week, I really look forward to a cold glass of wine and I’m completely unapologetic about that. It’s my weekend treat.

8. What is your pet peeve?
Rude people. There is just no need to be rude. Saying please and thank you doesn’t cost anything, but means a heck of a lot. And if you don’t have something nice to say, then say nothing.

9. Where do you see yourself in 10 years-time?
I’ll be over the big 4-0 hill! So I am a bit freaked out about that! In all seriousness though, I would hope to have fulfilled my lifelong ambition to become a best-selling author and maybe have more children.

10. Do you have any nicknames (beside The Mammy Blogger!)?
I’m not big on nicknames for me, Niamhie is a bit of a nickname, but mama, mammy or mummy looks like they are set to become my names for the foreseeable future!

10 questions with… Jennifer Haughton

10 questions with… Jennifer Haughton

Hi Jen, welcome to Liffey Valley Style HQ! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
Let’s begin….

1. What is your favourite childhood memory?

I think it would have to be spending my whole summer soaking up the sun in Spain. Every year, myself and my family would head over to the Costa Blanca where my parents have a place for at least a month of my summer holidays. I made fantastic friends and when we returned home, we would keep in touch as pen pals. Some of these are still my best friends today.

2. What achievement are you most proud of?

Earlier this year I competed in my first ever bikini fitness competition. Stepping on that stage in front of a theater full of people was such a proud moment, and to walk away with 4th place made it even better.

3. What would you tell your 16 year old self?

As I’ve grown older I have learned that it is not about the amount of friends you have but the amount of real friends you can count on when the going gets tough.

4. What was the last picture you took on your phone? Can you show us?

I was away in Spain at the weekend and there is one restaurant I always visit just for their Raspberry Ripple ice-cream – and of course as I run a food blog, I take pictures of all of my food!

5. You blog about your life and style, do you like shopping and where is your favourite place to shop?

It is rare that I get to step out of gym clothes and I have an obsession with runners so I would have to say Lifestyle and JD Sports.

6. What is your guilty pleasure?

It has to be my daily dose of dark chocolate dunked in to a cup of strong coffee.

7. What is your pet peeve?

I am a serious neat freak and everything needs to be spick and span. One thing that really gets on my nerves is when someone puts cutlery in the dishwasher the wrong way – OCD much.

8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Family means a lot to me so when I look to the future, that is the first thing that I think of and I hope that in 10 years time, I will have started my own.
I am a huge fan of travelling and in 10 years I plan to have ticked a lot more destinations off my list which is ever growing.

9. Do you have any nicknames (beside Nutty Nutrition of course!)?

Dora the Explorer. When I was 19 I cut my hair in to a bob and let’s just say the similarities were uncanny so the name stuck since then. My love of travelling only added to the explorer part.

10. What’s your favourite animal?

Anyone that follows me will recognize this face – my 2 year old Frenchie Gucci. We were never allowed a dog when I was growing up so once I moved out and got my own place, it was the first thing on my list. He really is like my baby.

10 questions with… Michelle Regazzoli Stone

10 questions with… Michelle Regazzoli Stone

Hi Michelle, welcome to Liffey Valley Style HQ! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
Let’s begin….

1. What is your best childhood memory?

My best childhood memory is going to the sugar loaf on Sundays with my family and a lovely big picnic! Once we went and as we were making our way back down, the heavens opened and we were saturated. My Aunty made a run for it and slipped and was covered in muck… it was so funny!

2. What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
My favourite thing about being a mum is seeing my boys progressing, growing, learning and most importantly, being happy.

3. What advice would you give to our Mummy followers?
The advice I’d give my mummy followers is to be your child’s friend so that they can always come to you with any issue they may have. A touch of discipline is no harm either- it’s a tough world out there. Make your children eat their veggies too!

4. What achievement are you most proud of?
The achievement I’m most proud of, apart from my sons, is working in Essex for a year! Travelling back and forth every week by getting planes, trains and taxis to get to where I needed to be in Central London, was scary. It taught me so much and made me fear very little, so I’m proud of that.

5. Why did you choose to be a make-up artist?
I was always artistic and into glamour. I had the most glamorous mum and aunties. When I left school I knew I didn’t want to do beauty, so I did a make-up artist course in Senior College, Dun Laoghaire. It was the best year ever! After leaving, I got a job in MAC and was there for 10 years. It was the best decision of my life.

6. What would you tell your 16 year old self?

I’d tell my 16 year old self to stop worrying about what other people think of me. To get on with my own journey and focus on what makes me ME truly happy.

7. What was the last picture you took on your phone? Can you show us?

The last picture on my phone is my sons waking up with the fuzziest bed head ever! They make me laugh.

8. You blog about your life and style, do you like shopping and where is your favourite place to shop?

I love to shop in a shopping centre that has it all, the convenience and easy access! I love Liffey Valley-it’s so current and on trend.

9. What is your favourite piece of clothing right now?
Ohhhh that’s a hard one! I got a new Tommy Hilfiger navy bomber jacket, it fits like a dream and doesn’t let the wind get in at all; which is amazing for me- I’m always cold.

10. What is your guilty pleasure?
Without a doubt my guilty pleasure is chocolate!

The greatest thing about fashion is it’s limitless. So why, when it comes to work attire, are we hesitant to express our style?

Of course, it would be a total no no to swan around the office in what we really want to wear (a maxi dress with slippers, don’t judge), but an edgy take on a work staple may be a refreshing way to give you the motivation you need to slay your day.

So girl, express yo-self! Werk it! And keep reading below for our top powerhouse pieces.

1. Urban Jungle

Topshop always kills it when it comes to work wear and their new line of ‘Urban Jungle’ inspired pieces has us giddy. Think rocker meets CEO. The mix of work staples with bold stripes give a street-wise edge that we adore.

2. All about Sleeve

We will always gravitate towards the exaggerated sleeve look. This short wide jersey type from H&M will serve well coming in to the summer months yet the cool pastel is still spring apt. Ticks all the boxes and for only €25? Sold.

3. Just blaze it

Nothing says boss like a military jacket. Finished with silver bullet coloured buttons and tailored to perfection, this coat from Bereska is sure to give you all the Bad B feels.  So simple, yet so effective.

4. Heel or no heel

Heels. We know there are many, many other things you would choose over wearing heels in work (spending the weekend with the in-laws or changing nappies is up there for some) but hear us out.

Have you tried on any of the River Island heels as of late? They are super comfy. Like, realllllllly comfortable.

But don’t take our word for it, pop into the guys and girls in River Island, Liffey Valley and try ‘em out for yourself. Below is a selection of our favs.

5. All work all play

Playsuits are the unsung heroes of work wear world. They are simultaneously chic and lazy, yet don’t comprising style. Below are our two favs from Miss Selfridge. These super glam onesies are a winner all round for us.

6. Pretty and Powerful

Express your wild side in a subtle way with florals. Picking a strong tailoring with a soft print, like the one below from Oasis makes for an overall pretty yet suave aesthetic. Feeling pretty and powerful has never been so easy. #FlowerPower

10 questions with… Andreea Opris

10 questions with… Andreea Opris

Hi Andreea, welcome to Liffey Valley Style HQ! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
Let’s begin….

1. What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
I love my mornings with Sophia—they’re my favourite part of the day. Her little face lights up when she sees me in the morning and we enjoy our cuddles before breakfast in bed. I love seeing my little girl growing and evolving into this fun, happy, curious toddler, and I’m proud that I had something to do with it.

2. What advice would you give to our Mummy followers?
Not to be too hard on themselves. My first year with Sophia was a rollercoaster of emotions. I was so anxious all the time and so afraid of doing something wrong that I forgot to relax and enjoy motherhood. It’s also okay not to feel okay all the time. Motherhood is not all bows and rainbows, but I’ll always say that it’s the most challenging and rewarding job I’ve ever had.

3. What achievement are you most proud of?
Besides my little family, I’m very proud to have bought our first home last year. We had saved since we were in college, putting something aside every month to go towards our deposit. After years of renting, it gives me such satisfaction to know that when I look at home interiors or inspiration on Pinterest, I can finally create whatever look I desire in my home.

4. Why did you choose to become a blogger?
My blog started on a whim seven years ago, one boring afternoon, after countless months of reading beauty reviews and following fashion bloggers. I suppose I wanted to give my two cents about my beauty favourites and share some of my personal experiences. Since then, it’s grown every year, from just my friends reading it to almost 26k views a month.

5. What was the last picture you took on your phone? Can you show us?
My last photo is a picture of Sophia, of course. I take dozens of photos and videos each day, to capture our memories together.

6. You blog about your life and style. Do you like shopping and where is your favourite place to shop?
You could say that shopping is my cardio. It’s definitely cheaper than therapy! On my blog and social platforms, you’ll regularly find shopping hauls from River Island – I could easily spend all my money in that store.

7. What is your favourite piece of clothing right now?
My River Island Molly jeans have become my favourite piece of clothing from my wardrobe. I only discovered them in the last two months. They’re just fantastic: they’re high waisted, suck you in in the right places, come in short lengths, and are super skinny and comfortable. I could easily write an essay about how fab they are! I just need a white pair to complete my collection.

8. What is your guilty pleasure?
I love celebrity gossip—there, I said it! I’m glued to E! News every day, and I never miss a show. How else will I know how is Beyoncé doing

9. What’s your star sign and do you think it matches your personality?
I’m a true Capricorn. I love to organise and plan, and I’m feeling my best when I’m working. The downside of my sign is that I’m pretty stubborn and like to have things done my way.

10. What’s your favourite social platform – Snapchat, Instagram or Facebook?
Instagram has my heart by far! You can find me over I just love the story of the pictures and the instant connection with the poster through the new Insta Stories feature. I get so much inspiration from it for style, food and just general life hacks.

2017 Spring fashion trends

2017 Spring fashion trends

Need advice for your Spring look? Never fear, the Liffey Valley style team are back to spread the word on the hottest trends for Spring 2017.

1. Think Pink

Be it hot, shocking, blush or baby, pink is this season’s must have colour. But don’t just take our word for it, pink is trending throughout the major fashion capitals of the world, reaching its pinacle on the Gucci runway (which was entirely pink!).

2. Hide and seak cut-outs

From Dior to McQueen, this look has infiltrated the industry and it doesn’t look to be leaving anytime soon. A nice alternative to plunging necklines and backless dresses, it reveals enough skin without baring all. The power of suggestion is the main focus here.

We suggest an updo with this one, à la Bella Hadid (above left).

3. Fringe binge

The new take on this age-old classic, sees it lighter, cleaner and more feminine. Although we love our rock and roll black leather fringe jacket, it’s a refreshing take with the softer fabric. Pair with a minimal heel, for ultimate effect.

4. The bright stripes

Not for the faint hearted, this colourful trend, gives the girl next door vibe, yet screams confidence. Although stripes appear in several shows per season, we’re getting serious 70s vibes from the Spring 2017 runways.

5. Just glow with it

This season is all about fresh, glowy skin.  No, we’re not talking about highlighters, we’re taking about moisturised, healthy skin.  This look has been a popular one on the runways of Lanvin, Armani and Brandon Maxwell. So, up your water intake and mostiurise daily, cause its all about that natural glow.

6. Over-the-top earrings

Decadent earrings are the jewellery of the season. The over the top trend, as seen throughout various fashion weeks, has us captivated. So why not dare to rock some serious ear candy this year?!

With so many fabulous new spring trends to choose from, we’ve got the shopping itch!

All of our stores Spring 2017 collections can now be found throughout the centre, so we hope to see you rocking some of these trends soon.

Top Tips to create your 2017 Inspiration Board

Top Tips to create your 2017 Inspiration Board

Inspiration boards are a great way to focus on what you plan to achieve this year. Whether you want to get fit, travel more, change job, or all of the above, visual boards will help kick start your journey.
Here are Liffey Valley’s top tips on how you can create your own inspiration board.

Start by sourcing a foam or poster board, which are available in Art & Hobby. Our advice is to choose a foam board where possible as they’re sturdier and should see you through to the following year. Alternatively, pick up a scrap book, adding to it throughout the year or why not create an area on a wall in your home.

Encouraging words and phrases:
Having a mix of words, pictures and positive phrases in different colours and fonts adds depth to inspiration boards and makes them more appealing to the eye, and therefore more encouraging.

Cut out words and pictures from old magazines or newspapers and start sticking!
If you’re looking for something brighter, jazz up the appearance by adding this seasons must have accessories…patches, badges and pins. A variety of Liffey Valley stores are stocking these including Claire’s Accessories, Topshop and River Island.

Get crafty:
Any excuse to get artsy is enough for us! Why not try sticking some bobbles and glitter onto your vision board? Art & hobby in Liffey Valley have plenty of options for all your crafty needs!

Don’t worry about perfection:
Just get started and have fun with it! You can always come back to it and add or remove things as you see fit, or as your goals change.
There’s no right or wrong way to create your 2017 inspiration board…the most important thing to do is make sure it’s individual to match your personality and unique goals for the year.
Good Luck and don’t forget to tag us in any inspiration boards you post online!

Christmas Fashion Inspiration - The Little Black Dress

Christmas Fashion Inspiration - The Little Black Dress

No wardrobe is complete without a little black dress (LBD). Whether you’re looking for an outfit for a girlie night out or Christmas dinner, the LBD is the perfect piece to get you through Christmas.

Here are some of our favourite LBDs from Liffey Valley stores that are sure to impress this festive season!

Sparkle in black with this festive little number from RIVER ISLAND. It’s the perfect party dress and will add some sparkle to your wardrobe. We suggest just wearing heels with this piece…no accessories required.

Looking for the perfect dress for ringing in the New Year? EVANS have you covered. Their black pleated t–shirt dress works for any dress code; black tie, Christmas day or why not wear trainers for a more casual look. Pair with a statement neck piece or chandelier earrings to add some sparkle.

Spice things up in this slinky LBD from H&M.  Throw on a black leather jacket to give it an edger feel or faux fur jacket for a touch of glamour. Team with a simple pair of black heels and classic clutch.

Keep on trend with this frill hem dress from COAST. Selected from their Olivia Palermo collection this beautiful piece is sure to make you stand out from the crowd at any winter wedding or Christmas party. It’s a timeless classic that will see you through many Christmas seasons!

One of our favourite trends this year was velvet so we couldn’t resist adding this dress from OASIS to our list! Flattering on all body shapes, it hides a multitude of sins, especially after all the Christmas indulgence. Add black tights for a more conservative look or dare to bare with a pair of metallic heels.

Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and there’s nothing more enchanting than beautifully wrapped gifts.

If you want to spend a little extra time being creative with your wrapping this year we’ve got five tips to help you add a touch of magic this festive season.

Keep it simple with some natural wrapping paper with neutral toned string. Add some fresh foliage straight from the garden using vibrant greens or red berries for a touch of festive colour.

Nothing symbolises Christmas like the addition of a beautiful, luxurious red ribbon. It immediately adds festivity to any wrapping paper or gift box. Make sure to practise your bow tying in advance to guarantee the perfect Christmas parcel.

Metallic colours work really well at Christmas - think black wrapping paper with gold ribbon or wintery silver and white tones. This is a more sophisticated style of wrapping and adds a touch of glamour to your parcels.

Sparkle this Christmas by adding some glitter accessories or decorations to your gifts. If wrapping presents just isn’t your thing you can pick up glitter boxes or gift bags.

Don’t forget to tag your gifts. Not only will they remind you who your gift is for but they’re also a lovely way to send personal messages to loved ones. And they double as an additional design feature!

Tiger is Changing…

Tiger is Changing…

Tiger has changed it’s name to…

What happened to Tiger?

We have changed our name and logo, but inside we are still the same playful, creative and curious creature.

• Tiger was born more than 20 years ago. Since then we have opened more than 600 shops in 28 countries. Tiger has always been a curious creature and the new name more clearly expresses this. When we choose and design new products we always focus on how they contribute to your life. What our products have in common is that they facilitate experiences – it is not the seed in itself that brings value to your life, it is the plants you can watch grow with your family and pass on to your loved ones once they bloom.

• We want you to feel rich after visiting a Flying Tiger store, not only because you experience value for money, but also because you discovered products that will solve problems you did not know you had or because you bought something that will create an experience you look forward to having and sharing. The name “Flying Tiger Copenhagen” more clearly expresses this aim. Why do you have a new logo?
• Tiger wishes to inspire people to be creative, playful and live out their ideas with their loved ones. With the hand cut letters, the playful design and the wiggly eyes the new logo more clearly expresses our identity

Why did you change the name?

• When you walk through our stores you meet products you will not normally connect. In the same way, the new name, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, illustrates our wish to surprise by connecting things you do not normally connect, the tiger that flies, while at the same time emphasizing Tiger’s Danish heritage.

We’ve got BIG News!

Press Release - 5 Feb 2016

Hines submits planning application for significant expansion at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre

Plans include additional 22,000 sq. m. net retail space; 1,800 car parking spaces, a major new civic plaza and a 2,500 seat Olympic-sized indoor ice arena.

Hines Ireland, as asset and development managers has today (5 Feb 2016) announced submission of a planning application for a significant expansion of one of Ireland’s best known shopping and leisure destinations at Liffey Valley in West Dublin on behalf of it’s co-owners*. Planning permission is being sought for an additional 22,000 sq. m. net retail space together with a mix of other uses. The application, proposes the building of an Olympic standard ice arena with capacity for 2,500 spectators, capable of hosting international ice skating competitions, ice hockey matches and ice entertainment performances. The plan proposes 1,800 additional car parking spaces and a transformation of the Centre’s civic spaces with the addition of a major new public space equivalent to a typical European-scale Urban Plaza.

Detailed studies commissioned by Hines into the existing market predict spending and population growth in Liffey Valley’s catchment will outstrip growth in supply over the next 5 years, demonstrating the need for new retail space in West Dublin in the coming years.

Commenting on the planning submission, Brian Moran, Senior Managing Director of Hines Ireland, stated “This is a significant yet timely planning proposal for Liffey Valley, underpinned by evidence of emerging demand for this scale of expansion in the future. We are submitting the application now as a strategic forward planning initiative aimed at the sustainable development of Liffey Valley in line with future market needs.

Our research shows that if the planned expansions to all Dublin shopping centres went ahead in the next 5 years, it would add 12% to the retail floor area in the city region. Customer spend and population growth will outstrip this, so we are making this application now as economic growth accelerates to avoid the kind of lack of supply we are currently seeing in office and residential markets.

Over the past 24 months we have been cultivating a new vision for Liffey Valley via a series of works in the Centre and the western end extension. Already a leading employer and contributor to the local community, this new project will maintain Liffey Valley’s integral role in the local economic development of West Dublin over the next decade. Now is the right time to forward plan to ensure future retail demand is met within this strategically-located Regional Shopping Centre.”

Commenting on today’s announcement, Development Director of Hines Ireland, Kevin Ryan, said the new development at Liffey will enhance and complement the existing Centre: “We are proposing a major new glazed public plaza together with the addition of other uses besides retail. This will add a new sense of place and identity to the Centre while linking into the existing facilities and the West End development which is due for completion at the end of 2016.

The new public space will provide an additional mixed leisure entertainment, commercial and retail extension creating an active public environment, which fully resonates with the local community. This, combined with €28 million invested in the complex over the past 18 months, means we are building on a successful retail mix and customer experience and establishing Liffey Valley as one of Ireland’s leading shopping and leisure destinations.”

Commenting on the provision of a new Olympic sized ice arena, Ice Skating Association of Ireland President Karen O’Sullivan said: “This is a significant and exciting next step for ice skating in Ireland. A new arena will allow us to meet the significant underlying demand for ice skating across Ireland and allow our athletes to train and compete at home; giving us the best chance to develop home-grown international champions of the future. Hines has worked closely with ISAI to include all the features to allow this to become the permanent home of Irish ice skating teams and a top quality international ice sports venue.”

In advance of this planning submission, an architectural competition was initiated to come up with a world class design for the proposed new retail and leisure spaces at Liffey Valley. The US architects RTKL were selected having devised a visionary design which envisages transformative new civic spaces being added to the existing building at Liffey Valley.

The project once initiated has the potential to create up to 450 construction employment opportunities during development approximately 1,500 full and part-time jobs upon completion, bringing the total number of people employed within the centre to over 3,700.

We are expanding!

We are expanding!

We are delighted to commence a €26 million investment in the retail, leisure and community facilities on offer at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. It represents an exciting new phase of development for the Centre which has evolved into a major shopping destination for west Dublin and beyond. The €26 million investment will bring a new Penneys store, six restaurants, a cinema upgrade and a new civic space.

In addition, this investment will bring 450 full and part-time jobs on completion, as well as up to 225 construction jobs during the development phase. Liffey Valley’s expansion will also be a key element of local economic development in west Dublin and we are very pleased to commence these works to deliver the jobs and business benefits that will come from the expansion. We expect to see the cinema upgrade open in Autumn 2015, with the new Penneys due to open in late 2016.

This development of our customer offering is on top of our already successful retail mix comprising 100 stores and anchor tenants such Marks & Spencer, Next, Dunnes Stores and Boots. Liffey Valley also has a wide range of restaurants, a 1,000 seat newly refurbished food court and a 3,500-seat VUE cinema.

This expansion plan signals a promising new chapter for Liffey Valley and the customer experience that makes it one of Ireland’s leading shopping destinations.

For the moment please note that there is no rear access to the green car park (at the back of the cinema).
