Employment:

The construction on the new Town Centre will provide another opportunity to expand the already successful FÁS Employment Training Centre model. This model was pioneered in Liffey Valley in the 1990’s and also in Mahon Point in Cork.  The training model provides training and education for the local population and proved very successful in the construction of Mahon Point where it achieved a local placement rate of 80% among the long term unemployed and also provided logistical support for the employers. It is estimated that the construction alone will provide in excess of 2,000 jobs. It is anticipated that this employment will be drawon from the local areas of Lucan, Palmerstown, Neilstown and Clondalkin. Once the expansion is completed by 2013 another 2,000 employment opportunities will be created in Civic amenities, retail, cleaning and security. Currently, over 70% of the existing workforce in Liffey Valley comes from the surrounding areas.

Transport & Infrastructure Improvements:

Liffey Valley Town Centre is conveniently located on the N4 adjacent to the M50.  Major infrastructural improvements have already taken place making Liffey Valley more accessible and the removal of the M50 toll has created a more positive retail and leisure location. The Civic Square will also act as the transport interchange for a new bus service that will connect the Town Centre with Clondalkin and Lucan. Public transport links will be further improved by the proposed Luas expansion to Lucan in 2013 and the proposed Metro West to be completed in 2014.  These improvements, along with the new local bus service that will be operational before Liffey Valley Town Centre opens, will create a transport interchange at the new Civic Square.
