10 questions with…Beautynook

Why did you choose to be a blogger?

I had always loved reading blogs and watching YouTube videos, but never had the confidence to do it myself. I got together with someone else to create one initially, that helped me grow in confidence. And now, four years later, I am still working away on my own little space on the internet and am really enjoying the process.

What was the last picture you took on your phone? Can you show us?

The last picture on my phone was a Snapchat save to add to my Instagram stories. I was having 90’s vibes with my outfit (Vans and Penneys trousers), so was just sharing it. 

You blog about your life and style, do you like shopping and where is your favourite place to shop?

I LOVE to shop! Shopping for makeup makes me so happy it’s ridiculous. I love nothing more than wandering around Boots for literally hours checking out the new releases and swatching makeup up my arms...there's an amazing Boots in Liffey Valley! 

I love clothes shopping too. Penneys, H&M, River Island and Zara would be my favourite places to hit when I’m out and about. 

How would you describe your personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?

I have to admit I am not the most comfortable in my skin, so personal style can be hard for me. The older I get, the better I am though and I’ve definitely embraced the more casual trend. I am so happy to be able to wear runners on a daily basis again without getting funny looks. My awesome friend Ella is 100% a fashion inspiration to me. She puts such cool outfits together and really pushes the fashion boundaries. Her style is so ‘her’, and she pushes me constantly to try things I would have loved on other people, but never tried myself.

What is your guilty pleasure?

I have so many, so this is hard to choose! Probably eating a huge bag of cool original Doritos while watching ‘Say Yes To The Dress’. The funny thing is I’ve been engaged for literally years and have no interest in walking down the aisle in a white dress, but I love watching other people do it.

What is your pet peeve?

Flakiness 100%! I don’t like when someone says they’ll do something or go somewhere and then it doesn’t happen. I always try to stick to my word.

Do you have any nicknames (besides Beautynook of course)?

I have loads! Most people who know me call me Gem. My brother calls me Gemima. John my other half calls me, bud, buddy, button. For some strange reason ever since I was little my mam calls me Mags. No real rhyme or reason for it, but she still does to this day!

What was your greatest failure and what did you learn from it?

I’ve had so many failures in life, I could probably write a book. I am the type of person that makes rash decisions and that doesn’t always work out. I’ve learned and am still learning to sit back, think and trust my gut more before rushing into things.

What’s something that our followers might now know about you?

I obviously write a beauty blog and love beauty products. However I was such a tomboy growing up. I was in the scouts for about ten years and used to spend my weekend pitching tents and running around in the mud...how times have changed!

What’s your star sign and do you think it matches your personality?

I am a Gemini, which I think is hilarious considering my name. According to my parents, it wasn’t done on purpose. I think it completely matches my personality. I can very much be two people. I love being sociable and having fun. But, I can also be very serious, love my own company and extremely indecisive. It really depends on the day!
